Isabel Jiménez and Carlos Magarvi

from Albacete (Spain)
Isabel and Carlos are from Albacete, where they started their Lindy hop career. They created a vivid Lindy hop scene in their hometown, teaching regularly and organizing their own festival, the Shimmy Fest.
Isabel started dancing at a very young age and spent 10 years dancing ballet and 4 years studying dance pedagogy. When she discovered Lindy hop, she found a totally different way of dancing, in which discipline and technique stays in the background and where she can express herself with more freedom and joy.
Carlos has been going from one thing to the next until Lindy hop came into his life. Since then he has devoted all of his time to get to know and pass on the roots of this culture, focusing on the best years of the famous ballroom “Savoy”. His dance is pure energy and rhythm, strongly influenced by African dances.
Isabel and Carlos consider Lindy Hop as a street dance, that's why the focus of their teaching is mostly on the very social part of the dance, respecting every person's way of expressing her-/himself. To them, Frankie Manning is a huge inspiration, and they aim to spread his spirit and love for this dance in the best way they can.

Our Swing inspiration comes straight out of the Spirit Moves (documentary of black social dance by Mura Dehn), famous clips and the stories of old-timers. These stories reflect, what swing nights felt like, when they were danced back in the days.
We mostly are interested in teaching and dancing the Swing that was born in Harlem New York. For us this kind of dance is an intimate connection between dancers, based on improvisation and using the body to express the rawness of jazz music, as well as the feeling of the moment. Our classes are fun and liberating, aiming to get students inspired and motivated to create and exchange, as they explore the music!
