What is Lindy Hop? - Lindy Hop in Saarbrücken
Lindy Hop is the original swing dance from Harlem, New York. It mainly is a couple dance, focused on the joy of harmony, the exchange of movements and the interpretation of the music. It has arisen in the end of the 20th in the big ballrooms of New York, where the Big bands developed jazz music into orchestral swing music. The most popular among these clubs was also the biggest, the “Savoy Ballroom” in Harlem. Unlike the other clubs, the Savoy was open to dancers of all skin colours and all walks of life. It therefor acted as a melting pot for the different dancing cultures under which Lindy Hop quickly became very popular, attracting prominence and high society, giving to the Savoy attention and fame beyond Harlem.
